Default Intarsia Lighthouse Thread

It looks like the new issue is on it's way if you haven't received it already. Anyone interested in trying the lighthouse in this issue - feel free to post progress pictures, questions and comments in this thread. I'll be happy to post more progress photos of the original piece as well to help you with the shaping. Seems like you guys really like having these threads for individual projects so we'll give it another go.

No time limits or restrictions - just post as you go so we can all learn something

Janette, I just saw a picture on the "in this issue" section Scroll Saw Woodworking & Crafts - Fall 2009 Issue 36 and it's gorgeous. The rocks looks like real stones. What a great way to use interesting scraps too. Can't wait to see the entire article and hope others will try it out and post pics.

Hi Janette,

That will be a fun project. The rocks look like gems stones. Choice of woods on this one will be interesting.

Janette:
After having just finished my recent Peggy's Cove Lighthouse intarsia I will opt out of this project. I will follow the results though. I am still working on your Spring Songbirds of a few issues back. This has set idle for the past few months so that is my current priority.
Cheers
Bob

I had two projects lined up to do next, but may have to put them off to do this. These challenges have been so much fun, thanks for starting them. There is no one around here that does woodwork, so it is nice to have friends here to share with. And with a lot of people working on the same thing makes it more fun. And you and the other more experienced ones are so great about showing all the pictures and the help.

Janette, that is really lovely. I keep saying when I retire from our little woodworking business, I am going to try intarsia....I have tried to retire from the business several times...I think I need to sell the business to someone so I can get into the "fun" items I would like to try.

Hi Janette - great photos! The first things that hits me about this project is that there are lots of straight lines - this should be a cutting nightmare - LOL!

I'm in two minds whether to tackle this project as I have work piling up on me and I know if i start this then everything else will be pushed aside, but if i do take it on, which i would like to, I think i would like to try it as a semi stained 'intarsia' just to try something different and also to help with the wood selection. Any objections?

I feel like such a traitor! I'm not going to be able to make the lighthouse, at least not anytime soon. I have a really good excuse! I'm having great success selling my bird ornaments (and a few other items) through a waterfront booth where the cruise ships dock. Every week I drop off 20 or 25, and every week they're pretty much sold. I am absolutely NOT going to complain about success, but it does mean a much busier summer in the shop than usual. And cruise ship traffic triples in September and October, so ....

However, I will certainly be around to cheer everyone on as they make their lighthouses. And the lighthouse will be at the very top of my list for the winter, which unfortunately will be here before I can blink!

I'm looking forward to seeing lots of wonderful lighthouses. You newbies have certainly proved you can do it!

Gotta go sand nuthatches.

Lou
