Default Cat and Dog

I've been around the board for nearly a year and never dreamed I'd post something on the intarsia board, but I was moved to try Jeanette's cat and dog magnets from the latest issue.

The cat is walnut and maple and mounted to some plywood. The dog is poplar with stained ear and paws, but the tail is made from a cedar door shim, which means it gets bushier (thicker) as it gets farther from the body.

Both finished with gloss lacquer and have two 1/4" rare earth magnets countersunk into the backing.

Doubt I'll ever make this the primary art form on the saw, but I will be trying something a little more challenging later. Neal Moore may even get me to give segmentation a try.

Hi Jim,

Those look great. So, what is your next more challenging project?

Glad you gave it a go Jim! They came out really nice. I like the colors you picked.

We've got a cute little...easy...nuthatch challenge going on if you're interested in something easy, yet more challenging.

G'day Jim,
Well done, I'm itching to get into some of those, but alas, they'll have to wait until I empty my load a bit more.

That's why it's almost time for a new issue to come by the time I got to them! Had a little time, some scrap wood and a couple of projects in progress I couldn't stand to work on any more, so I tried something new.

They really were pretty easy John. You could probably knock them out in a few minutes. I spent more time prepping than I did cutting.
