Default Angel Fish WIP

Well I got up enough nerve to start my first intarsia. I decided to attempt the Angel Fish found in CWWC 09/2008. The article is by Bruce and the project by Janette. Besides finishing the head (small pieces), I need to fit and glue the larger sections prior to sanding. Fitting should be no problem. My question, what kind of glue and how to glue?

Denny
Great job. I use tachy glue but any wood glue will work. I use the tachy craft glue because it is actually pretty strong and dries clear.

Oh cool Denny, we have another "intarsian" who will get hooked (and I am not referring to the fish you are making!) Looks like a great start. I use regular carpenter glue (that dries transparent).

YAY Denny!!

I'm glad you giving it a try! When I made the angel fish, I tried to shape them in varying ways to show that there is no right or wrong to the process.

I use Titebond II wood glue for mine. Any good wood glue will work. Be sure to post more pics as you progress.

Great job so far Denny. Isn't Intarsia Fun! I use Titebond II and III (just depends which one I grab at the time) to do the glue ups. Please do show us as you progress.

Looking real good from here. You can trace trace the big parts as one unit over a thin piece of plywood and trace it. Then cut the plywood so all the big pieces fit in the hole. Then from the back side use a bunch of masking tape and press the parts down. That usually holds them plenty good for me to gang shape them. That allows you to easily remove them if you want to put a small bevel on the edges of each piece once shaped. A small bevel, just with some sandpaper in your hands is enough to cast a shadow which will hide the seams. Or you can just glue them all together with wood glue. That's fine too...but even the smallest gaps will be visible if you do it that way.

I glue the stripes together first - then shape as a whole once dry.
