Default Cover of the January 2009 CWC magazine

Kudos to Bruce Worthington and Janette Square's ram intarsia on the cover of CWC magazine (January 2009).

This duo has created some wonderful intarsia projects and as a designer I appreciate Bruce's take on a design. This time around however, I have to say Janette's selection of wood for the Ram's horns is one of the best wood selections I've ever seen. I could "feel" the texture and curvature ....Applause.

Unfortunately we mere mortals will never be able to get that same effect in our rendition. Pout.

If you have the issue, check it out. Whether you do intarsia or not, you have to admit that rack jumps out at you.

Take care
Toni

Thank you Toni and I have to agree completly on this one, I doubt anyone will ever be able to find a piece of wood to come close to that one. It was truly perfect for the horns.

Did someone say "rack?" Hehehe. I haven't looked at that mag for quite some time but congrats Bruce and Janette, I'll have to take a look online.

Thanks Toni. I was tickled to get the cover for the Ram. It was a challenging piece. Believe it or not , the horns were NOT the hardest part of it! I did get lucky with the wood and I'm fortunate to have a good blue pine selection to choose from. The horns came from one of those coveted pieces of solid gray that I keep for special uses! (not much of it left I'm afraid tho).

Here's a couple pics of it in case you don't get the other mag.

That is definitely a beautiful piece of work, I would like to have had the material to do that one instead of the Marilyn Carmin pattern that I cut for my high school.

I'd like to try intarsia, but I'd just end up feeling inadequate compared to this bunch and slump back to my medium grade fretwork and my wordart, never to peek out again.

This is some fantastic work and Janette, you should be bustin' with pride getting the cover and doing a one of a kind piece with some once in a lifetime wood.

Thanks all...but I'm hoping to encourage others to try it...not discourage them (you) !! I love fretwork but have absolutely no patience to do it.
Give it a try - it's not as hard as you might think.
