Hi,
I'd mentioned in another thread that I was in the midst of a "magnet marathon" for my upcoming shows. They're mini intarsias made from simplified larger patterns. There's no backing and I use 1/4" rare earth magnets - which are more than strong enough for them. They're popular at shows because of the reasonable prices ($10-$15 each) and work out well when I figure how long they take me to make. Overall from start to finish is around 1/2 hr each on average. The salmon took longer than the rest because of having to hunt for flying fins during sanding!

Janette,

Those are great I bet they sell well. Are you sure the sammon are sammon and not flying fish?

I really like those. Would make great gifts.

Those are amazing, I can see why you were playing hide and seek with the parts. The result is sure worth it though. Oh so much better than the crap my other half buys and sticks on our fridge!

Chickadee heads, salmon fins and kitty ears - those were the best "fliers" - mainly because not much to grip and they're round in shape!

They're great because not everyone can afford the big ones so they can have their own "little" one - and when people comment "I have no wall space" - I show them magnets. Only problem with that is there are a lot of new fridges now that aren't magnetic...guess I could offer peel 'n stick ones !

As a reference - the hummingbirds (green ones) are about 6" wide, the salmon 6 1/2" and the wolf is about 4 1/2" tall. I used Watco Danish oil on them. Can't believe how dark the pine in the wolves got - left them in soaking longer than the chickadees I guess.

You could stack cut them, but I cut them from 3/4" wood then slice them in 1/2. Don't want to give away too much as there's an article in the works for SSW
