The only way I know if to keep padauk orange is to keep it in a dark closet. Not the answer you want to hear I'm sure. A friend of mine did a really nice small table with a drawer about 5 years ago and the only part that's still orange is the inside of the drawer. The rest is a beautiful brown... but not orange. Pat

Sylvain, those are looking good! Nice to hear you are back at intarsia. As for padauk, if you hang the project on a wall that doesn't get any direct sun, it can stay orange for a few years. I also find that if you coat it with a water based poly, it stays more orange then if you coat it with an oil base poly.
Good luck

Hi Sylvain - those designs are turning out really nice. I especially like the penguins - but then who wouldn't!

looking forward to seeing the finished pieces.

Sylvain, Looks really nice.
As far as keeping the paduak orange, Bluebird is right. The guy at my Rocklers told me to wash or wipe with 100% mineral spirits before finishing, that it was the natural oils in the wood that caused it to turn dark. Keeping it out of direct sunlight also helps.

Hi,
This is going to sound wierd but we had some success using a sun screen on paduck then finishing it abd it holds it's original color. Almost like using the sunscreen as a oil finish.

somebody else said something about sunscreen once...can't for the life of me remember who. They "finished" the project with sunscreen - then I think sprayed a finish on after that but I can't remember all the details. Maybe experiment on a piece first.
