My Latest Batch - Scroll Saw Woodworking & Crafts Message Board

Here are a few things I have been working on lately. I made 9 total. Five girls and four boys of course one of each goes to the office collection, LOL. Brennan was done with spalted maple which I had lying around and decided to try it. All the faces are done with basswood because of the fine grain it looks more like real skin. The hair on one of the girls was done with walnut thanks to the great tip I got from Ned using the packing tape.

Pete, these are absolutely beautiful. I'm not supposed to be jealous but right now I am failing miserably.
Are these considered intarsia or segmentation? If so I can't do either one (I'm no good at shaping so intarsia and segmentation are not my talents). Is there a pattern available to be cut just as fret work without any of the shaping? I'd love to share some of these with friends and family.

Pete, you did a wonderful job on them all. The spalted maple looks great on Brennan and love the wood grain choice on Alexandra's clothes!

Don't be so hard on yourself. Unless you are an artist or sculpter it comes hard to all of us. I would say 80% of the folks who do intarsia say that the shaping is the hardest. You live in Tenn. you are close to Roberts studio should consider taking a course from Roberts Studio I highly recommend them and you won't be disappointed.

You never quit amazing me. Nine more projects all finished in no time at all. You must have too much time on your hands lol. Are you running out of wall space in your office yet? They all look great and I am glad that I could help you with the tape idea. I am suprised you haven't tried it before as it has been mentioned in most of the scroll mags. But as you usually only use cedar you haven't really need it.
