Default Segmentation v intarsia - the difference in cutting styles

Hi folks-

The question continually gets asked by newcomers 'What is the difference between Segmentation and Intarsia?'

Without getting involved in the arguments of the finished look of a project and whether it should be called Segmentation or Intarsia there is at least one point of general agreement on the difference and that is to do with the cutting styles between these two art forms

I hope this animation helps confused newcomers to understand this difference and I emphasize that I'm only talking about cutting styles

This animation loops so if you catch it mid flow just wait for it to begin again

Jim,
That is a great animation and explaination. I guess I do segmentation and not intarsia and I have been calling it intarsia all this time. LOL. May I add that in both, you still shape the pieces the same to make it look 3D. And glue it to a backer and can use the same patterns.

Default That makes it much simpler

Thanks Jim!
I just got done saying in another post that I wasn't too sure of the difference. I guess I just needed a visual reference (I'm a little thick that way )
Anyway, as I said in the other post, I am ready to sprout new wings.
Thanks for thinking of others!
