Well I havent been here for awhile but I just started my first true intarsia.
It will be a walleye plaque for my son to give away as a gift.

I have cut all the pieces, using birch, fiddleback maple and fir.
Some of the pieces I carved to shape rather than sanding. but still long way to go.

I will post pics when I am done.
I made the pattern myself. I just enlarged a pice of color clipart I found online and traced the general shapes.
It is certainly an interesting process taking a 2 dimensional picture and making a 3D object.

Do show!!!!!!!
I haven't taken the dark path myself yet, but I guess it's only a matter of time. Intarsia is inevitable. (Gotta get some sufficient stock first).

Oh yea we need pictures.
Jim,

I used some ordinary pine to do some simple pieces and get a feel for the fitting and shaping. You don't need any exotic wood supply to get started.

Oh, boy another one to the "wild side".
Cathy, I borrowed your phrase, because I think it fits intarsia. What with all the pieces flying off the disk sander and sanding mop, now that can get really wild.
Carl, please do post some pictures. I know when I started making intarsia, the pictures were a life saver for me, to see how to cut and shape.

Stuff the pictures Carl! - well someone has gotta say something different !!!
- and of course I'm lying.

Glad to see you've stuck your toe in the water. Come on in, the temperature is fine and the sharks have been trained just to suck your toes instead of biting!

As to WIP pictures - well baring your soul this way is one of the neat things about intarsia and segmentation work. Of course you have to be a bit brave to do this but that's part of the fun! As the recent challenges have shown, no two people produce the same result from the same pattern and seeing the different approaches, irrespective of the level of experience of the scrollers, is not only very interesting but highly educational

Anyway I'm not going to tell you what to do next..... but I'm sure someone else will - LOL!

But Where are the pictures??? Since I've never done intarsia, I figure you'll be helping me out what with you're being new to it and all.

We really want to see the pictures!!!!!!!

Plus I love the idea of using carving tools to get there, since I have all kinds of carving tools and nothing but a Dremel to shape with. You may be on to something here....
