I was having some fun out in the shop and couldn't help myself. Some multi acrylic inlays. I wish I could capture better photo's. The alien is a shimmering silver and grey. The black has just a touch of shimmer and a touch of metal flake. There are stars around the sides and back of the alien. The images on the pen wrap around too much to catch it all in a photo, but it is a flying saucer streaking a trail around the earth. It's pretty cool.

Looks great Jeff! I don't know how you did it, but it couldn't have been easy! Jerry

Magic. It's all about out-smarting the human brains optical senses. There's a fair amount of time in a pen like this, but the difficulty level is not that high. It's funny too, because in a competition setting, this would compete as advanced and my experience in the past is that it can take down scrollwork that takes a man months to make, but only takes me hours! Makes sense too. You take a monster clock..you can knick pick at a thousand holes, missed filing a saw mark here and there, a little rough spot in the finish in just one tiny spot and points continue to mount against you. You look at this pen, it's shiny and shimmers attracting you to it, you feel it and it's smooth as new glass, and the seams are 10000% flaweless, and your mind is perplexed as to how a scrollsaw could rotate like that, let alone not go all the way through.

Really cool, Jeff! How is that done? I'm thinking that you cut a veneer, like in marquetry, and then wrap it around a turned blank. Is that right or am I totally off?

You didn't make it on a scroll saw, did you? No - you must have used a lathe.

| Yea..you would be on a different planet, pardon the pun. It is not veneer. Chances are good that veneer would not make it around such a tight circumference. Besides that, it's urethane, not wood. I scroll my pens, but of course the final product was turned on a lathe. Few more months..the secret will be set free.

Very nice ! My experience from doing shows is that "shiny" and "sparkly" win out every time! I feel like I should add glitter to my finish some days.
