Default Color coding Intarsia patterns

Because I kept cutting the wrong lines on my patterns I have started to color the piece that I want to cut out. I started with a blue color pencil, and only lightly shaded the piece to the edges. Since then I have started to color the +1/4 yellow, +1/2 red, + 3/4 green. Now at a glance I can get the right thickness of material and see which lines I want to cut. I only use the color pencils, don't know if crayons would work but I'm thinking they might be a little dark.
Any place else an old man like me coloring pictures might raise a few eyebrows.

I use colored pencils sometimes, not for height adjustment though. I use the carbon paper and trace method of transferring my pattern to wood. If a lot of different colored pieces are next to each other, I will color them to keep up with which piece to cut next.

I usually write a number on each piece of the pattern I want to cut (2 = 2/8", 4=4/8", 6=6/8", etc) but I really like your color system! Might give it a try! Thanks for sharing!
