I have a bit of a dilema. I can't make up my mind about how to display my Koala. Leave it as is and just put a hanger on it or put a frame around it with a light backer? It will be a gift so I don't know where it will be hung. It still is not finished as I am still waiting for my Bartleys Gel varnish to come in.

Hello Rolf, I think no matter what you decide, it will look good! If you plan to hang it on a "plain" wall, then you don't need a frame. If your background wall is busy with any kinds of design on the wall (like wall paper of wood wall) then I would consider framing your project to make sure the koala gets the focus. Just my 2 cents....since you asked.

Rolf, that's pretty much a matter of personal taste. There are times when a piece is best on a backing because of delicate wood pieces (a bird sitting on thin branch with small leaves or blossoms, for example) to give the piece increased strength, but the koala isn't particularly fragile, so it's whatever looks best to you or the recipent. But be assured that the piece will look very attractive whatever you decide. Lou

When you say a "light" backer do you mean a light(bulb) or light colored backer? I'd think you would frame it with a neutral colored backer to make your adorable bear POP! If you don't know how it will be displayed. I like him just the way he is as well. Fence sitter here.

| 'Senior' member - no way! | Hi Rolf - I like the idea of a simple but thick mounting board. What I mean is a board with no frame but about 1" thick painted with a light colour to suit, including the sides the same - or covered with a light fabric to 'float' the koala away from the wall its hanging on. These are really easy to knock up using a pine outer frame covered in a sheet of 1/4" MDF or similar and once painted or covered look nice and modern and fit most interiors Just my idea...

Great job with the kaola. Have you considered a wooden base , it could be then displayed in different settings, attach a wall mount for hanging at later times? Sometimes my two cents aren't worth much, some good ideas being thrown your way. I'm sure it will look good wherever you decide. Have a good one Pat Carroll |

I'd put a backer on him and a hanger and call it good. He can hang in more places this way and doesn't take up as much wall space. (Unless they have gigantic cathedral ceiline walls that need big stuff on them) - in which case you should make a full size eucalyptus tree for him to sit on!

HMMM Eeucalyptus tree, I like that idea. Someone told me that the Koala's are stoned all the time because of some thing in the leaves they eat. I decided to not mount it, other than the backer and let the person recieving it decide what they would like to have. Thanks for all the great suggestions, I liked the idea of a base also.
