Ok, so I am doing easy projects. With Lou's advise, these were fun to make. I cut the pattern on 3/4" stock and then cut the pieces in half making two robins 3/8" thick. The pattern is by Lou (thank you). The woods used are Aspen, Bloodwood, Walnut and Yellowheart. The finish is three coats of Old Masters Clear Gel Varnish. The magnets are not yet attached. Comments welcome.

Your eyes came out a lot better than the ones I did! Great job. Other than losing some fingernails - magnets are fun and easy. I'm working on a dozen or so right now too - dragonfly, dolphin, hummer, kittybacks, nuthatch & chickadees.

Hi saw dust, Gee thanks. I am starting the Brown Pelican by JGR. I wanted to make a project out of Western Red Cedar. Ok, I used Aspen for the white. |

Beautiful robins, Denny! My gosh but you're doing wonderful intarsia! I just can't believe you're a beginner. I'd been doing intarsia for YEARS before I started doing the small stuff! I must tell you that when I make the robins now, I no longer cut the head separate from the body, but just cut it as one piece. Obviously that's a matter of choice, but it does make it easier. I just sand a nice curve into the neck. Saves some cutting and fitting and seems to look just as good, at least to my eye. You did great. You have a real feel for this work. Keep them coming! Lou

Hi WD, Put a leash on Robins? No way. Got to tell you. I went to school at Robbinsdale High School. Guess what the mascot was - ROBIN. That was a whole lifetime ago. |

Hi Mike, I don't think I want to try pyrography or marquetry, maybe segmentation. This intarsia is loads of fun. |
