I recently discovered the double sided pressure sensitived tape that bowl turners use. It is super duper strong to hold the pieces down while shaping. Getting them off is another story but I like your idea Jim and will keep that in mind if mine get too stuck. I've found with this stuff, you can usually use it more than once as well.

Thought I should round off the thread by posting pics of finished apples. My niece decided to make a yellow apple this time instead of the usual red (this is the third one she's made for her teachers). Figured I'd also post my own golden delicious (yellowheart with oak worm). The apple trio is the yellowheart one, a cherry one and one from aromatic cedar. Yes, I also make bloodwood ones and they're the ones that sell! That's why I have these ones to take pics of but no nice bright red ones. My magnet board is dusty! Pics sure do love to tell the truth! Lou

Hi Lou, Those are great looking apples. Good enough to eat, well except for the worm. My favorites are red apples, so the aromatic red cedar is my favorite. |

I found that the blade of an Xacto knife works well to loosen the pieces off the double stick tape. Lewis |

Thanks Lou! This has helped tremendously! It was so nice of you to share it. I love all the apples but especially the cherry one! I may give this a try sometime. You do such magnificent work! Anne

Thanks for the post Lou! I've read where people used sanding shims, but I wasn't sure what they were. T |

Thank you for the pictures and the details on using the shim Lou. I am trying to get a handle on intrasia and really enjoy all the information I am picking up. saw dust

| 'Senior' member - no way! | Hi Lou - just cut and shaped the leaf of another shy frog I've been asked to make and I used the sanding shim idea for the first time and it really helped me. The shim is now labelled and stored away just in case another froggie is requested. Great tip - Thanks!
