Ok, I have always wanted to try intarsia and I even did at one point but was not successful. I am trying it again in the near future I ordered the dolphins from wooden teddybear and as soon as I get through with the bass fish clock, the rifle, the two soldier portraits I am going to start the dophins....provided something else doesnt come up LOL. My question is this, In my readings on intarsia I find that people either trace the pattern onto the wood to be cut or cut out templates to use on the woods. Why cant you just do it the way you would cut portraits glue the pattern to the wood, slap packing tape on it cut away? seems alot simpler this way especailly when you have like 50 pieces or so. Just wondering, Thanks Dave |

Thats the way I do it, you end up using more paper but so what. You have to make sure your lines are thin and that you can cut on the line. I cut each piece out of the pattern with a 1/4" margin and lay it on the wood so I get the grain I want. Then I mark a few lies threw the pattern and paper, that allows me to place the pattern where I want. Hope this helps.

That's exactly how I do it. I make several copies of the pattern, cut out the part of the pattern I want to cut, and attach it to the wood.

And I guess I should say ditto, that's the only way I've even tried to do it. Tom |
