Default Davinci Project-Final chapter

Davinci Project - the final Chapter.

Now that I have finished my prototype and made adjustments to the patterns I have begun the final phase in what I have called the Davinci Project.

I will be posting my progress for anyone who might be interested in this project.

Two months ago while doing a photo research on horses for my previous project (Kathy Wise Rearing Stallion) I came across photos of the Davinici Horse and was awestruck by the beauty of the statue. I decided that I would try to duplicate the statue in wood since I could not afford to purchase even a small replica of the original (15" replica in bronze is $7,000). My plans are for a 17" replica.

I set out to find as many photos as possible and found a number of amateur photos. From those photos I made may patterns. I had to make two patterns since the left side and right side are totally different and I could not just make mirror images. I was only able to make mirror images of the head.

I made my prototype out of inexpensive wood and was able to make adjustments so that both patterns would easily match up.

I have started to make the final version. This time I am using several woods ( Spanish Red Cedar, Black Walnut, Wenge, Aspen and Iron wood) for this version.

I have cut all the pieces and below is the photo of the two patterns.

The next step is to begin the shaping and contouring of the individual parts.

I will start with the head and next post I will show my progress on the head.
