| Softwood and hardwood Is there any trouble mixing softwoods and hardwoods? I ask because I just made a piece using a great piece of redwood and then I wondered if that would be trouble, since I seldom see anybody do that. |

| I work primarily with Western Red Cedar but i do mix hardwoods to get the colors i want, have used black walnut, purple heart, redwood root and not had any problems.. . . I need to take another trip to the northern Calif. coast and pick up some more redwood,

| I mix everything and anything! Whatever woods I need/want to get the colors I'm looking for. Here's a pice I just finished. The coral particularly uses juniper (soft) myrtlewood (hard), lacewood (hard), poplar (soft), buckeye burl (very soft), english walnut (hard), figured bubinga (very hard) and maple burl (medium)- quite an array of woods and especially colors. |

| Very pretty, Janette
You do seem to have much more choice of woods in US. I have built a few up and continually search for more. Some have been almost impossible to cut small pieces from, others cut like butter. I would agree, providing stuff is properly seasoned you can mix them and you work certainly stands testament to that.

| yep, no reason it all has to be wood either. Plastics, metals, rope, rock, corian, whatever you want. Paint it, stain it, or au natural. I even use Lee press on nails.

| Janette;
Both projects are fantastic. I have never tried intarsia but can appreciate all the work that goes into it.
Great Job!

| Lol, press on nails. I've left plenty of fingernails in my work but hadn't thought of putting them in on purpose! |

| Janette, you are a master . your work is always so pleasing to the eye. love the way you use the grain of the wood. you must spend more time, finding just the right piece to fit the motion of the flow of the project. wonderful. your friend Evie |
