Default lion mask

I've done a few intarsia pieces - a number of Kathy Wise's angel ornaments, and a bear by Sue/Toni. Here's one I will show! LOL

Again, design by Sue/Toni - their stylized Lion mask. Cut from Redwood (salvaged when our church was remodeled), Mahogany, Oak, Walnut, and birch (?) highlights in the eyes.

It looks nice.Good choice on finish,it looks nice when its not al glossy I think. The thing I dont care for with it is my mind tells me the nose is crooked, and although it is designed that way, i think it would look better if it were more, ummm 'aligned'. Great cutting and shaping! Dale

For only having done a few pieces, that looks pretty good.

Symetry is what makes the world go round, but some things are just made to be a little off center (good thing for me or I'd be locked away).

thanks guys.
When I hold the mask in my hands, the nose bothers me some too. But when I look at it far away, it looks fine. Sometimes you have to admire from a distance... LOL

An excellent cutting and, agreeing with Dale, the finish is lovely (I hate glossy finished work, too) As for the symmetry: that's where traditional woodworkers always find the problems, they are so used to squaring and angles etc, it is difficult to adjust.

Keep up the good work

Sue

There are some designs that do look best from face on! I've done a few animals, particularly frogs- that when viewed from the side look "odd" - particulary if the eye is on the edge of the work.

Your mask looks great. Now that you've been bitten by the intarsia bug...what's your next project?

Ian - I can envision you holding your computer screen moving it back and forth like a newspaper -

Thanks for the comments everyone. Janette - My next project is going to be a segmentation one - another dragon I think. I am also cutting the pieces to the rest of Kathy Wise's nativity set - but am holding off on shaping them until I can set the dremel up outside.
