Default Gel Varnish

So I see lots of folks use Old Masters, and lots of folks use Bartley's--is there a difference? What's your preference? I know Janette likes the Bartley's and I'm a big fan of her work

How bad do the gel varnishes yellow? I did go ahead and get a can of the pickling white that I found here at a paint store, but strangely, they had the pickling white but not the regular gel varnish...I'll have to mail order that.

I have only used Bartleys so can't tell you about the old Masters. I have tried General finishes- what Woodcraft now carries instead of Bartleys. That one I HATE. That's my personal preference. It's not as nice looking as the bartley's- but the one thing that I couldn't deal with was the smell of it- texture was weird too! Anyhow- as far as yellowing- I don't use any whiteners in my work. It does yellow a little and best to test it on the wood you're going to be using it on if you're not sure. As you get towards the bottom of the can, it yellows more as it's "older" I guess.
