Default Project "Royal Entourage" - Finished

This is a project based on the drawings of Jean Francois Oeben and Jean Henri Riesner ...sort of a collaboration on a project that took 9 years to build, completed 1769. I have modified it from the original to transform it into a modern intarsia style, removing a few items and enhancing the details quite drastically. Estimated to be in the 2000+ range for pieces to be cut.

First up is the seperated copy of the center piece, an open music book. These are the same as the originals, not modified. The notes where all cut in several stages. First the vertical lines are cut with a straight blade, then re-cut with a spiral blade to widen the lines...every cut was actually done this way. The lines are filled with black inlace. After a few days of curing, More cuts are made and so on until finally the rough stage is set.

This is the current section I'm working on. It's been real busy in the shop with other things, but time is finally shifting back to scrolling and will be even better after christmas. It's important that things are done is small sections to keep organized. All items that will be inlayed into the music note pages are first priority. Once these are complete, the necessary elevations of all objects will be easier to manage.

This flower is 28pcs , Bloodwood and lacewood.

A small flower of purpleheart and maple. If another tool will make things easier and provide a better out come, I say go for it. The center of this flower is basically a 1/4 round. I cut out the pieces individually, taping them together as I go. I extended the flowers into the center. Once all the petals are fitted perfectly, I mass taped them tightly together. I pulled a 1/4 drill bit and chucked it in the drill press and drilled out the center. I plugged in a maple dowel and marked it with a pencil then cut the dowel to length. Perfect fitting flower.

Wow! What patience. I can't wait to see the finished project. Is it a commission you are doing for someone or just for your own pleasure?

Very nice. I like the idea of a dowel for the center, rather than a plug, because of the ideal grain direction. Would be nice if you could reliably get dowels from tree/branch centres though.
