Default Mounting Question

Hey All,

I mounted my Buffalo on a oval plaque and it looked really plain so I made some segmented feathers to add at the bottom....

Heres my question....is it too much? Does it take away from the piece or add to it?

I think it looks great ! Traditionaly there has always been a connection between Native Americans and Bison, so the feathers tie in nicely !... Larry

Default Feathers

I think it really adds to an already fine piece of work!

Looks good to me too. Do remember...with a judgmental question like this you only need 50% to agree and you're in business.

I like it too. That's a grand job all round.

The mounting in the oval and the feathers work for me too .. it may be the colour rendition of the photo but perhaps the plaque could have been a little lighter to give a touch more contrast ...

I was just thinking that too Ian. I love the feathers. If you had a little more contrast between the buffalo and the background, it would show off the buffalo more....but if you took a pic. with no flash, it could just be the photo. Perhaps a ligher wood such as maple or oak would highlight it a little better.

Overall, I think that's a real winner!

I like it I think it looks great, But I have to agree the feathers would make the Buffalo stand out more if they were lighter.Still looks great though.Jerry

Now it hit me...seems the plaque is missing a cove. or some sort of decorative edge from a router. I think a cove would be best on this piece, but perhaps a roman ogee. It still looks great, but that's something to consider in the future.

Thanks everyone.....

Ian & Janette are right....I took the pictures last night without a flash....here is a much better picture with natural light and you can see the contrast much better.

Jeff, it does have a slight bevel but you couldn't see it in the previous pictures. I don't own a router as of yet....on my list....so this is just a plaque I picked up at Michaels. I stained the bevel darker then the main part to add some contrast.

Thanks for everyone's comments and praise!!

- Jeff
