Default How I get double the life from my blades

Hi everyone, being new here some one may have allready talked about this
Most everthing I cut is out of hard wood 3/4" thick or less. Your only using about an 1 1/2" of the blade. The rest of the blade never gets used. Well I use them
I've got a 16" x 16" x 1 3/4" slab, I drill an 1/8" hole in the center then on the bottom I enlarge the hole to 1 1/4" diameter an 1 1/2" deep. I put this on my scroll saw table. As A result you end up using the part of the blade that never gets used. The 1 1/4" hole on the under side makes it easer to feed the blade through. This seems to work really good for me, Has anyone else tryed this

Have not tried this., but as I mainly stack cut and am limited to a 2" cutting depth it wouldn't leave me much room for material. Good idea though.

If you want to get double the life out of your blade, use it half as much.

db. I have done the same thing except I have only used a 3/4" thick piece of plywood, cut to the table top shape . It does get me some extea mileage .

Nancy_G. Before I cut the plywood to the shape I wanted I drilled two holes in the back on either side and one in the front . Like a triangle .

In the holes I put 1/4" bolts with the heads cut off . You could us dowel or metal rod long enough to fit down the side of the saw table. The rods slide down the side of the table . Glue them in .They should fit snug so the top does't wander when cutting .

Once you see how the board sits on the table ,mark the blade hole and cut or drill the hole .

Once every thing lines up you can cut the top to the shape of the saw table . On my Dewalt I left an inch all around .

The front bolt I aligned with the center mark and put a piece of masking tape on the metal top for reference .

I used a piece of 3/4" counter top which was left over from a sink cut out .

Make any sense ?
