After buffing a few pieces with steel wool yesterday, I blasted them with come air, but still had lingering doubts I had removed all the material--especially considering I still had some wool dust on my hand. To make sure I had removed all the iron, I took one of the little powerful rare-earth magnets and ran it across the piece and picked up a couple of threads that were still hanging around. I used one of the telescoping pick up devices you get at auto parts stores. I keep it under the saw table in case I drop a blade or the tightening wrench.

Good tips. I really hate to work with steel wool - can't stand the little threads. UGH. These tips might make it a lot easier getting to them.

Great tip....I do as you did and use my compressor but there are always a few hanger ons.

Jim, about the only thing I use steel wool for is to remove rust from a tool.
