I moved my dust collector out of my shop and into the garage about 10' away. I made a dust and particle separator from a hardboard type drum with a removable lid. I used 2 of my small dust ports and screwed them to the lid. On the input side I installed a short section of 4" pipe to direct stuff to the bottom. Now it is not as noisy in my shop. 1st pix is 4" pipe from shop to garage, 2nd is dust separator, and 3rd is dust collector hanging on inside of garage.

G'day Merle, Great idea. I think that's what is commonly known as "Extension by stealth." No honey, I'm not moving the shop into the Garage, I just want somewhere to store the dust collector.

Looks good Merle. Wish I could move mine but there's no place for it to go My separator has a plexiglass window on top and a large baffle. Got the plan from Shop Notes. Pat

Sure like creative thinking! And I know you love a quiet shop. Uhmmm, just thinking.... will/does it affect heating/cooling in your shop?

Haggard: I was thinking of something along the same thought as that but also wonder about the Cooling being affected. I don't worry about heat. Only a couple of days a year that it's to cold to work in the shop here in Dallas. But cooling is a big concern. I only have a 12000 BTU window unit to cool my shop. Can't afford to have something sucking the air out.

Good idea Merle. I can imagine that the noise from the dust collector can take all the fun out of scrolling. Now you don't have to put up with the motor whine.

Thanks for the comments, don't know how it is going to affect the AC/heating yet. It is only on when working with something. I haven't got my complete plumbing done yet for the system.
