I'm sure there are more of you with this problem, getting the blade through the wood. Take an awl and just poke it in each hole. It creates a small funnel that makes it easier to guide the blade in. I am working on one of Sue Mey's crosses and I was havin a heck of a time until I tried this.

I had that problem for 11 years then got a saw I could top feed with. Then I had a problem finding the hole in the zero clearence insert. I now have an oblong magnet stuck to the right side of my saw table with a hat pin attached. I poke the pin through the hole in the wood and move it around until I find the hole then drop the blade through.

I just used the previous blade (which either broke or is dull) to put through the hole. I use a pair of needle nose plyers to pull it through once. Works like a charm

The Awl Is A Great Idea. But With My Eye Sight I Still Could Not See The Hole In The Bottom Of The Board So I Took A #2 Lead Pencil And Stuck It In The Holes Before I Started Cutting. This Made Them Stand Out Against The Light Board Making It Easier For Me To See. For Dark Wood I Use A White Marker. |

I used to use a fine tipped felt marker to mark the holes until I read another post refering to the awl idea. Now that is the method I use. I works good for us bottom feeders. LOL

I'll never get used to Top feeding..I'm always bending blades trying to find the hole under the work piece.....so thanks for the awl trick for this bottom feeder.
