Default Selling Patterns

I've been a busy bee making patterns for chesspieces, business card holders, letter openers and a whole raft of other things. It sure would help if I could sell some of these to help pay for the ongoing material cost of the scroll saw addiction.

Those of you who sell patterns, how have you made it work for you?

I'm not a pattern seller, but thanks to Jediscroller's advice, I'm working my way through Barbara Brabec's books on making money from crafts, and I wholly recommend them to anybody thinking of doing any kind of crafty business. I got 4 of her books from the library here. She has tons of information on copyrights, vendor licenses, taxes, IRS regs, free advertising, and selling on the Internet, among other topics of information that you might be interested in. I hope that is of some help to you

Most folks I know that are doing ok with pattern sales are typically doing well with Wooden Teddy Bear. I set up a website to sell them, but I'm just not all that into the whole pattern sales thing and don't push it all that much and definately don't update it as much as I should.
Magpie, I'm glad you're finding Ms. Brabec's books helpful. I have meant to send her a note regarding some of her copyright info which is a little bit off although excellent. Even so, her's are the very best I've read on the business side of crafting.

My primary source of sales is through the Wooden Teddy Bear indeed. I rarely sell patterns through my website, although it sells enough to pay for itself and keep me in some supplies. The Wooden Teddy Bear has the means to market to the masses where I can't seem to get much traffic to the webite. WTB won't just publish any and every pattern you send to them, they have a pretty good standard for quality and some strict requirements on how patterns are submitted but it's been a GREAT relationship with them.

Scroller Ltd. is another reseller of patterns but getting patterns in with them is pretty tough. If you want to pursue it further, PM me and we'll exchange emails to get you pointed in their direction.
