| All newbies The book "Scroll Saw Workbook by John Nelson" was recommended to me by many people on this forum. I ordered it and did the 25 skill building chapters (you can do in 2 days) and my scrolling skills have increased 1000%. Inside/outside curves, inside/outside corners etc etc. Do yourself a favor and get this book. It's available right here and you will have it in your hands in a week. ![051[1]433](http://www.scrollsawer.com/forum/images/smilies/051[1]433.gif)

| Way to go, you must have lots of patience.
I started by making jigsaws for firewood, toys for firewood and pictures for firewood. I always assume everything is gonna work out fine and when it doesn't, I get mad and chuck it! Hubbie works on the assumption that nothing will go right and is over the moon when things work out.
I do read instructions though, BEFORE I commence!!!

| Jigsue, nothing like the smell of burning designer firewood in the morning, "I say with a tears in my eyes", I messed up last night, after about 6 hrs of work on a part of a project I am doing now. How in thunder did I do that. What ever you do don't drop a 1/8 inch thick x 13 inch long x 5 inch wide victorian fret work part on a cement floor. aaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrggggggggggggggggaaaaaaa!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

| Pete, that's a tough one to take. I heard a yell last night and it must have been that one....
I remember one of JohnB's comments after I threw a piece across the garage about having been one of the "two bin" club. One next to the saw, the other underneath the dents and scars in the garage wall.
Good luck with attempt #2

| Scott;
I also bought the Scroll Saw Workbook. It was recommended by a scroll saw woodworking club in Atlanta. It is a great book but, I didn't pay close enough attention to the section where they discuss wood. I purchased some craft plywood for my first real project and after about 3 hours of cutting I noticed parts were breaking. Soon I discovered the wood had small voids. Ouch! now I am more careful about wood choices. Sorry about your experience but I wanted to let you know your not alone when it comes to making mistakes. Good luck with your next one, and Keep on Scrollin'.

Thanks Sue, you couldn't have put it any more comically descriptive, that gave me a good laugh.
