Strange subject for this time of year, but what ' Holiday Carving' is there to talk about in January? Last year I must have carved fifty ornaments; I started around August. On Christmas eve, I had to carve two more because unexpected guests stopped by and I had ran out. So I am starting earlier this year. I already have six ornaments finished and about twenty cut out. I would like to exchange an ornament with someone; if anyone is carving ornaments this time of year. The ones I am doing this year are nothing fancy, just quick and simple. |

Rick, Sounds like a good way to get ahead of the rush. I actually 'start' on things for Christmas right now. When I finish them for 'Which' Christmas remains to be determined. Need a snail mail address to mail one. Kinda neat that one of our carvings makes its way across land to a fellow carver. Our club carves ornaments for our community project. For 8 years we gave them to the Hospital Auxiliary to sell in their gift shop. This year (we moved out of the hospital for our weekly meeting) we gave them to the YMCA for their annual holiday auction. Donna T |

Hey Rick: Remember the exchange we did with all the patients in the carving ('Home'?) My pollyanna was Bette. How long ago was that? Maybe we could think about it with some of the folks in the chat room for 2003!.Big Al

Yes, I remember that ornament exchange; I am still waiting for my ornament. I did receive a wonderful consulation carving from the nice lady who put the exchange together. This time I will run the exchange myself and send an ornament to anyone who sends me one. My mailing address is: Rick Ferry 423 SW 104th Seattle, WA 98146-1545 |

Okay, yeah, this could be a fun thing. Believe it or not, I've never carved an ornament. I'll do one sometime this week, though...see what happens. I've been collecting all this scrap wood, thinking I'd do ornaments at some point. I'll make the same commitment as Rick - I'll do an ornament for anyone who sends me one! Teri Embrey 8555 E. This sounds pretty cool. I'm in. I've never done ornaments either, but I'll try anything. Give me some kind of idea as to what you have in mind so I can get started. I'm just finishing up a pair of cardinals for a show at the end of Jan., but then I'd like to do this. Chris

I think it's pretty cool you way experienced carvers are game to exchange with anyone. I'm in...and knowing I'm sending it to Rick and Teri it'll give me incentive to do an even better job. I did a couple of ornaments this past Christmas, so I'll strike while the iron's hot and get started on a few more. Thanx for getting this started, Rick! - Brian |

Chris, As an example of what I am carving, they are small enough to hang on a tree without ripping off a limb. Mine are one-sided; kinda like a relief carving. They are quick and easy; I can carve one in twenty minutes or so, plus another twenty minutes to paint it. |

Thanks Rick, I actually have a few small patterns I came across just before Christmas that would be perfect. I'll get started A.S.A.P Chris.

Well, I'd love to give you an idea of what my ornaments look like, but....LOL...I have no idea yet. I'm pondering the subject...trying to think of ideas that won't take more than an hour or so to carve. I'll give a yell when I actually get one done...lol Teri |
