Default Santas By Rick & Jody Smith

We're in luck !! Rick & Jody Smith have photos of two new Santas on PictureTrail in the Holiday Album. http://www.picturetrail.com/carvers-R-us
Incredible carving with gorgeous painting. Check out the detail !! I hope Rick stops in and tells us if he's using hand tools or power.

Nancy, thanks again for posting the pictures. All my Santa's are carved with the original set of Flexcut tools I bought in 1999 and 3 or 4 detailing knives I made myself. I've never even tried power carving. No sandpaper, no files. Most are carved out of basswood, but I've done a few out of white pine and cottonwood.

Rick and Jody, we just looked at your two new Santas. They are just superb! We just love the clothes on the Victorian Santa. What great detail and originality. Thanks Nancy for sharing them with us...

Rick - No power? No sandpaper?
Hmmmmm - that's how I carve my Santas and mine aren't so smooth and nice.
Maybe Longo will watch you at Reason and tell me your secrets ?

Come to think of it .....he won't tell me HIS :-[

I agree, those are wonderful Santas, Rick and Jody! Are you a team like Curtis and Charlotte, he carves and she paints? I got into carving trying to find a hobby for my husband, after three and a half years I have to accept that the only carver....and painter....around here will be me. That's okay, I love it!
Once again, great work! And thanks, Nancy, for posting them! Callynne

Yes, we're a team. I do all the carving and my wife Jody does all the painting. I painted the first Santa I carved and decided real quick that I needed someone to do the painting. Fortunately for me, Jody volunteered and I think she does a fantastic job!
