Great idea! We are having a carving contest at our October club meeting and the subject is 'Halloween theme' ,any size, painted or natural, any wood, etc. We have another in December with a ornament to hang on a tree and then donate them to a senior citizens home. Big Al

Greg I really liked your German Witch and Walking the Cat. Great Halloween figures. I think it will inspire me to do Zelda beer meister witch.

'Zelda beer meister witch' ![]() Make sure you post that one when you finish it!! I added one more to my 'new stuff' folder. Its a santa carved from a big slab of cottowood bark...this is one of the few times I 'saw' a santa in the wood (bark) before I layed a knife on it. The shape was just perfect...about the only carving I did was the face...Mother Nature did the rest! greg |

While Christmas isn't the only holiday we can commemorate with carvings, it certainly is the easiest with a variety of santa and angel carvings--nativity sets, you name it! I started out trying to carve something *to display for each holiday. *I have a cedar heart with an arrow through it for Valentine's Day, St. Patrick's Day Leprechan, Easter bunny, a couple of Uncle Sams, Halloween pumpkins and ghosts, Pilgrims for Thanksgiving, and LOTS AND LOTS of Christmas things. *I also did a bunch of little wooden pins for all holidays, too. *My oldest daughter is an elementary school teacher and they like those kinds of things--then my grandkids liked to give things like that to their teachers. *When my youngest grandchild left 4th grade, a teacher stopped me and said, 'oh man! *Now I don't have another chance to have one of your kids so I can get those pins!' *(I made little fat pencils and crayolas with their names on them for school teachers--in addition to the holiday pins.) So, with a little creativity, we can carve something for every holiday. *It makes a nice little 'coffee table' arrangements to help decorate for each holiday--and keeps your carving on display at home rotated. *I have to admit, though, that Christmas is my favorite--maybe cause I'm just a kid at heart.
