Default 3d easter egg issue 26 confusion

In issue 26 there is a 3d easter egg. I cut out the six pieces and am now ready to cut the thirty degree angle. I seem confused. Do I cut a straight angle along the sides or like the 3rd pattern of the cross shows a canoe like shape. Do I follow those lines?

Thanks for the help

When I read that article I was a bit confused as to how that angle could be cut. I had to read it a few times and actually picture myself doing the steps to figure it out. Now I haven't actually cut this myself yet, but I believe that if you follow the directions exactly as they are written it should work itself out for you. Just set your saw at a 30° angle like it says, set up a 'fence', and using a spiral blade you should be ready to cut. Just make sure you don't use a straight blade if you don't have to because it will tend to drift a bit and you won't get a straight cut angle (does that even make sense? ). When you do the second side you will have to use that push stick also to be sure you get an even angle on the other side. I know it's confusing, and sometimes mistakes are made in magazine articles, but this time it should be right and work out fine.

Good luck, and remember to post a picture here when you are finished.

I actually set it up in my shop and tried it out to make sure it worked. Jim8mad has the concept right... the only thing I use the inner lines for is a guide; set the fence up so that it will begin the cut at the tip of the canoe, and run the piece throug; the angle of the table compounded with the existing curve of the piece will give you that canoe-shape...it's one of those situations where it's better to do than think about it <GRIN>

If you don't trust me, give it a shot on a piece of scrap...and don't try to follow the lines when cutting! Just use them to align the fence!
