| Start holes - revisited I am working on the lichterbogen in the Holiday issue and it has many places I could not get to with my drill press. A while back it was suggested to use a Dremel drill press turned around.
I had a Home Depot gift card. plus the 10% military discount so went shopping on Saturday.
I bought the Dremel plunce router base and a chuck for my tool. I put in a drill bit and started punching holes. It works great slide it to the spot and press down. I think it works faster than my drill press. This has solved the problem for me. It sits on a table next to the saw and can quickly do more holes -- or the ones I missed the first time.

| Great idea... thanks for sharing it!
I would imagine this would also benefit others who perhaps take their scrolling on the road (craft shows etc) |

| A plunge router that holds a drill bit as small as we use? Really?? Didn't know that.. You would think that it would be real easy to break the bit, in fact, how could you avoid it? :

Like Chuck D, I'm a bit confused, could you be more specific about your new tool? Could you post a pic of it? I'm in the market for a new drill and I'd like to see this router before I go buy anything.
Thanks

| It's the unit MinotBob posted. Your rotary tool fits in it. Both Lowe's and HD carry them. Go take a look. You will probably need a chuck for your rotary tool as well as the collets only hold one size shaft. I have used mine from 1/16 down to a #67. The high speed of the rotary tool makes for a neater hole as well.
The plunge base is $30 and the chuck $10.

| Addenda Don't be concerned about the black piece in front on the picture. It is an edge and circle guide that you wouldn't use for drilling. The base is transparent and about 5 1/2 inches around.

| Thanx very much for that info. I was looking at the drill press attachment ....especially after Gill posted her pic of it turned backwards ( duh! ) , but I had wondered if the plunge router might work as well . You have answred that question for me and the router attachment is stocked while the drill press must be ordered ( in my area )
Thanx again !

| Earl -- I use the flex shaft on my Dremel and that works wonderfully for drilling my piolot holes. I have the router stand for my dremel but I use that for routing. lol.
