| Scroll Sawing magazines I would like to have some options on which magazines to subscribe to. I know this is a SSW magazine message board… don’t be bias. I’m looking for the most informative magazine on scroll sawing. What do you think?

| I will step up and say I think SSW is the best. The reason why I say that is this - the material in the SSW magazine is fresh in comparison to others.
This may be because they give scrollers like us here on the forum a chance to contribute to the magazine and not rely on regular designers.
Designers have a style all their own and when you see the same designer in each issue you get the feeling you have "seen it before" and the excitment just isn't there. I used to look forward to patterns by some of the popular designers but now I find their work looks all the same and in some cases, it looks like they are struggling to come up with new designs and it shows, IMHO.
I like seeing new people and new styles and things that make me say "wow" that is cool! Right now, I can't wait for the next issue of SSW. |

| I use both Creative Woodcrafters and Scroll Saw Workshop. I feel that SSW is better. The patterns are more clear. More challenging. I get much more infomation from the articals. Creative Woodcrafters shares their material with carvers, and is not solely dedicated to the Scroll Saw community. I have seen some good material from Home and Gardens WOOD magizine, but they mostly deal with furnature makers, and not too much with scrollsaw art.

| Thanks for the input. It seems that SSW is the magazine for scroll sawers. I'll try it.

| It's not a scroll saw magazine, but if you can find a January, 2005 issue of "Woodworking for Women" on the store shelves, there is an article on Beginning Scrollsawing, along with a couple scroll designs. The article covers some things like how to make the sharp inside and outside corners, stack cutting, etc.

| Walker,
SSW is easily the very best. That said, Creative Woodcrafts may be worth picking up, just because SSW only publishes 4 times a year. If you are new to scrolling, I can't praise Scrollsaw Workbook (this is a book, not a magazine) by John Nelson enough. It is like having an experienced scroller standing by your side guiding me. Welcome to some fun stuff! Sandy |

| Once again, thanks for the input. sheltiecarver, My wife got me Scrollsaw Workbook by John Nelson for Christmas and I have gone through most of it. I really like that compound cut bow. And, yes, it is a very good book. I would recommend to anyone.

| Theresa - thanks for mentioning Woodworking for Women. My husband has encouraged my joining him in the work shop and I have been getting this magazine. My first project was the snowman fireplace screen. I borrowed a friends saw to cut out the smaller pieces and my husband cut out the large pieces on the band saw. My daughters and I did the painting. It was truely a family project that we gave to a dear family friend for Christmas.
I am waiting for my scroll saw to arrive. It was a Christmas present and one of the accessories is on back order. I am enjoying reading the forum as I wait.
