Hi Paul.

Do you mean cut counter clockwise table right? That would seem to be for a bowl or for inlay. It would produce an angled cut .

I do a lot of inlays. What I do is: tilt my table left side down 2.5 degrees. I put the base wood on the bottom and the to be inlayed wood on the top.( I do not think of counterclockwise nor clockwise, it is too easy to get confused.) I keep in mind to keep the inlayed image to the left of the blade. The lower side of the tilted table. This works for inside cuts and outside cuts as well.

Well not to mix you up...
I cut counter-clockwise withe the table down to the left at about 2.5° to 3°. with the inlay on the bottom coming up. The inlay being to the right of the blade...
Jim Finn's way is also correct.....

There is no substitute for just plain trying things out to see how they work. You can go nuts with the left side down vs. right side down, and with which way the blade moves or which way the wood moves. (Actually, the blade stays just where it is!)

Paul, remember that the angle of the tilt also depends on how thick the wood is, so just get a bunch of scrap wood the same thickness as the project you want to do, start out with the angle that's suggested, and experiment. It's the only way to understand how the cutting works. Took me a while to figure things out, and had some pretty strange results.

Paul just to add to the confusion for ya ......check out this article.
You can print out the little gauge if you think it will help to practice.
Scroll Saw Woodworking & Crafts - Homemade Relief Cutting Gauge

I too get confused with the direction to cut to achieve my desired results.
Once you find something that will work for you stick with it.
Personally I visualize a clock laying in front of the blade and say to myself do I want to cut going in the direction of 1:00 or 11:00.
Clockwise or counter clockwise just gets me more messed up.....and that's not too hard to do.
Just have fun, life is only temporary.
