Just wondering,what is your favorite wood for making ornaments?

Hardwoods when I have them on hand or poplar plywood if I'm going to paint them.
Otherwise I use Baltic Birch because I can get it locally still.

I prefer maple in 1/8" thickness but unfortunately my customers seem to prefer oak. I probably lose 1 in 5 when using oak due to breakage along the grain lines.

I like aromatic cedar, with no finish. I made a few ornaments last year with cedar and they were well received. Another choice is basically any hardwood you can get that looks nice.

I'll bet the aromatic cedar was well received...I'll have to try that I have a few small pieces left over from a chest I built..

btw my site is live now..got some tweaking to do but it works for the most part...I really like the new look..

Walnut , hard Maple and then the old stand by BB plywood....of course 1/8" and 1/4" is what I use........Marshall

I've been cutting some compound cut ornaments in western red cedar 2 X 2s and they've been cutting much easier than hard wood with no breakage problems yet.
