Default Turk Burd

Well, here's another from Tennessee. Had a little extra time the last couple days, so here's one fresh off the saw. If I counted right, about 120 frets, not counting the veining. This pattern is pretty stable, except for the veining around the head area and maybe one or two other places that you have to be semi-careful. Nothing too serious though. Quite a bit of veining was involved, which I like. It's still raw, unfinished, and unframed. I stack cut two of them out of 1/8 inch oak ply. First time with oak ply, but it cut good and I'm pleased with how it turned out. I was nervous cutting with a wood I'd never used before, but I will probly be cutting this wood more often, since I really liked the suttle but attractive grain (doesn't show well in the pic) and the fact that it held it's own in the more fragile spots. Also, it's readily available at lowes and home depot locally in the "nicer wood" section for just a few dollars. All the pieces I saw had a lighter side and a darker side.

Almost forgot.....pattern came out of the November 2008 issue of the "other" magazine. Don't remember who actually made the pattern, as I got it free off their website months ago and it isn't offered any more and unfortunately the downloaded pdf from the website doesn't have that information attached. If I find it, I'll post the name.

Hi Matt,

That is great looking fretwork. After doing the Walleye, I can appreciate the work put into it. By the way, the pattern is by White Tail Designs Ltd. and found on page 28 of CWWC November 2008.

You've got good taste and great skills Matt (This was the first pattern I ever cut wayyyy back in Janurary) . I broke the beard off but it glued up just fine. And I buy my wood from Lowes .The thinnest they have is 1/4",but I can get birch or red oak ply at around eight bucks for 2x4 sheets. And the oak grain will really pop up on the pic once you seal it.Oops rambling on again..... Great job Matt...Post the "finished" pic later- I'd love to see it!

Well, here it is all finished and framed up. Sorry, the picture is really crappy. These were taken with my cell phone. My good camera is borrowed right now and it's hard to take good pics if te lighting isn't just right on the cell.

BTW....Jerry, your right. I had to look back at my post and see what I wrote. It is 1/4", not 1/8. My mistake. You were braver than I was when I first started! I never would have attempted something like that for my first cutting! My first was a name plaque. Turned out good enough and I still have it, but it was a long time before I built up to anything detailed! Of course, back then I didn't even know about patterns or magazines or websites for scrollers. All I had was a strange machine I'd never even seen used and an alphabet stencile set.
