Default Checkerboard project

I was inspired by the checker set in the summer 2008 issue #31 of SSW&C by Sue May.
However I took it a few steps beyond. I wanted a case to store the pieces so made the case with a drawer to go under the board. I made it for my son-in-law’s birthday. He is a Duke Blue Devil basketball fan so I made the kings in the shape of a devil and painted half of them blue and the other half white.
The dark wood is walnut and light is popular. Finished with several coats of tung oil.
Below are pictures of the completed project.

Default Chess Set

Love the set. The pattern for the box looks great. Making chess sets is fun!

Awesome looking chess set! Thanks for sharing!

Two projects I've always wanted to do are a wooden gear clock and a chess set. I've never tackled either yet. Main reason I haven't done a chess set is because I don't have a table saw and don't think I could cut the pieces straight enough on the scroll saw. I'd hate to do it and the board end up with gaps between the squares.

The checker board looks great, as do the pieces! I like the custom design you did with the checker pieces. This is a one of a kind set. Nice job!
