Default Which Foot Switch is the best

Hello All, I am going to get a foot switch for my scroll saw and I have been looking at the different ones that Woodcraft Supply offers one model is just the basic on / off foot switch and the other is a momentary dead man on / off style can anybody tell me the difference, is one better than the other one or is their even a better switch offered by a different company any input will be greatly appreciated. Thanks ... ~~KOP~~

The only one I have is a sears one cost like 20.00 probably more now. It has served me well for many years. I can't imagine sawing without one. I put mine on a little foot stool. Legs aren't quite long enough.

I have been thinking of the foot switch as well..I just think the switch would be annoying as my saw has a built in light..and its pretty dark where I have it set up at right now anyway..I think with the foot switch my light will be off until I turn on the saw LOL..I been thinking about getting one of the magnifier lights..This would take care of my issue with a light..

I have the mag light too. I used to have a saw with a light and was really a useless light IMHO.
I got the mag light with the florescent tube. I didn't really need the mag part back then but it sure did make following the line much easier. Once you get used to looking thru it. It will take a bit to get accustomed to it but it is great when you do. Now I need it

I have been told that Harbor Freight carries the foot switches at a really good price. I ordered my from someone last year before knowing about Harbor Freight and it was pricey. I would check Sears per Sylvia and if you have a harbor freight near you definitely check "em out.

To answer your question, the dead-man switch is one which turns the machine on when the foot is pressing on it and turns the machine off when the foot is lifted. That is the one I use. The other type turns the machine on when it is pressed and then turns the machine off when it is pressed again.

I have a dead man type I bought from Sloan's about 5 or 6 years ago. I paid about $25.00 for it. It has been a good one. I visited their site recently and see they have it priced at around 40 bucks. I believe it is the same switch so that seems to be quite a price increase.

I did the same thing and brought one from from Woodcraft and it cost an arm and leg compared to Harbor Freight . And also Harbor Freight sells both kinds of foot switches , for right after I received my new foot switch from Woodcraft I brought an extra foot switch from Harbor Freight for a stand-by one . I use my right foot I guess because I'm right handed , I like the switch that operates foot on and lift foot off and it kills the saw . Just make sure that if you buy one from Harbor Freight you get the right one for your needs . ..........Marshall..........
