| SSWC #32 Coasters I need some help. I'm trying to cut and test the inlay pattern as shown and recommended on page 30. I tilted my saw to the right 1 degree. I was spinning the wood clockwise, which to me, made me cut counterclockwise. It didn't fit too loose as it suggest it possibly could. It was to tight.
I tried 1/2 degree to the right and it was still tight. Help.

| What size blade were you using? Remember, the larger the blade, the wider the kerf, the looser the fit.

| Just as an experiment...cut the other direction at 1 degree.

I'll let you know how it turns out.

| Scrolling 4 fun,
It might be worth your while to do the beveled test cut pattern that was in on of the earlier SSWC mags. It takes you through a bevel cutting exercise, using different angles and different directions. Glue it back together and save it for future reference.
I am not sure which issue it was in , but I will try and track it down.
Also make sure you are not putting sidways pressure on the blade, that will screw you up big time.
I just found it ,
It is in the Fall of 2005 issue "Homemade Relief cutting Gauge" by John Nelson is the article. It is a great exercise.

| I used to always use the thinnest blade possible when doing inlays, then it occured to me that the angle of the cut can be set to compensate for any blade width.
If you find the fit too tight and the piece stands a little proud of the base then just tap one side of the table to change the angle slightly.
Just half a degree can make a world of difference.

| The attached chart is based on a discussion that was going on here a while ago.
It gives you a ballpark angle based on wood thickness and blade thickness.
