|  Starting out I have just purchased by first scroll saw, I bought it used and when I cut it on the motor won't turn,I took the motor off and it checked it out and it runs fine. I haven't bought any blades for it yet,does it have to have a blade in it for it to work.It is a Craftsman scroll saw model-572.24722. |

| good luck to you!!! Making sawdust is an addiction almost as bad as the others, but it isn't illegal, immoral or fattening!!! Get some blades, make a mess or two, and pop up and ask tons of questions, the folks here are sharp, and even better, they are friendly.

| Sorry, can't answer your question, but just wait, someone will, there is tons of knowledge here. Welcome to the forum, I just got my first scrollsaw too, but be careful, I know my credit cards are already nearly maxed out... Mike |

| law184, there may be a safety feature on the saw to prevent it from running without a blade in it so that when you break a blade it will stop. You don't want to run it without a blade. Try it with a blade, if it still does not run then you have bigger problems. Can you return it?

| Try opening up the side panels on the arm assembly and oiling all the pivot points you can find. Sounds like the works are bound up to me. Never heard of any saw having a cutoff switch mounted in a blade assembly. Try moving the arm up and down manually (with the saw unplugged.) Does it move freely? If not, do what I suggested. If it does, then the problem is in the motor.(yes I know you said the motor ran dismounted from the saw, but it might not run under a load if it is wearing out).

| It should run wether a blade is installed or not. Pretty much repeating Muzzleloader: If this unit has sleeve bearings on the arms it is possible that one or both have siezed due to lack of lubrication. Lubricate any moving parts. Do the arms move manually. If the motor runs fine off the machine this is what I am thinking might be the problem. Does it run when it is not under any load. Keep us posted. Dean |
