In my last show, I took three orders for cattery signs. It's basically an advertisement of the breeder of the cats at the show. One sign in particular is going to be about 5 inches tall and 13 inches wide. This will be sitting on a fiberglass frame nylon animal tent so can't be too heavy. I'm going to use 1/4 inch maple as the backing, 1/4 inch zebrawood and padauk for the lettering. I need to attach it to a 13 by 6 inch baltic birch base. Does anybody have a trick on how to attach it to the base in a removable manner so it can be set up for the show, but packed flat? I could put a cleat behind the maple and put some set nuts in the wood, and use bolts or screws to attach it. Any other thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

How about a hinge and latch system? Unfold it and latch it to display, unlatch and fold flat to transport.

Azbison, how about cutting two or three tenons on the vertical piece and corresponding mortises in the base. Your client can then assemble and disassemble the piece easily. Sawdustus

Or a dado through the base the thickness of the sign. Although the mortise and tenon would be cleaner.

Well I am not sure the wood is thick enouph, but how about bisquits. maybe with a screw in the back to hold the 2 sides to the bisquit. that would pul it all tight, without interfearing with the front face, and, without alot of weight. just a thought. your friend Evie

I would either go with the dado in the base for the name to set into, or peg it using a couple short lengths of 1/8th inch dowels glued into the scrollwork that fit into holes drilled into the base.Or, if it will be displayed sitting on a pet tent, is it something that could be hung on the poles instead of sitting on a base, because there isnt much flat areas on top of those pet tents is there?
