Default Posture Question

I'm less than two months into scrolling and have learned a lot with this bunch, but I need some advice. Is it better to sit or stand to do the scrolling? I've moved to a standing workbench and that works ok, since it's an old saw and I've got to reach over and grab a tool to change blades every time, standing actually makes it go faster. But for long term, is sitting or standing better?

Second question: Does it help to raise the back end of the saw to get a better overhead view of the work? Or does a 45 degree view work best?

Answers from the old salts is greatly appreciated

I'd say that raising the back of the saw definitely helps with visibility and with not straining your neck ...

I prefer to sit - or at least perch on the edge of a stool ... unless I'm doing something very quick. I find a 29"bar stool is just the right height for me .. but that would depend on your height etc ...

I too use a bar stool for scrolling, long hours at the saw make this the way to go for me. Makes reaching for my beer easier as well . . . .

I use a bar stool most of the time while scrolling, but end up standing too - depends on how big the item is I'm cutting

Definitely raise the back to see the work easier with being hunched over. I bought myself an old office chair which is high like a bar stool for $20. Great investment. I prefer to sit also.

I use a stool too, standing for 2-3 hours is really tough on the back. Anything that you can do to make yourself more comfortable is good as long as it doesn't interfere with your safety. I also use a magnifier that you wear on your head and you can flip it up or down, helps with eye fatigue.

I dunno how long a lecture you want, but standing for long periods of time can have seriously bad effects on your health. If you do choose to stand, be sure to move around a lot.

Sitting can also have deleterious effects, so be sure to move around from time to time, and make sure you have a chair that's comfortable and doesn't put too much pressure on the back of your leg.

Be sure to arrange your tools so you don't have to twist and stretch a lot to reach them. Be kind to your back

Hope that helps! If you need more data, just PM me. I just finished reading a study on Romanian prisoners who were made to stand 40 hours at a time--you'll never stand up again after you read it!

azbison, depends on if you can top feed or bottom feed with your saw. Would not be to easy to sit if you have a bottom feeder. I have been standing while sawing for 15 years (now that's a long time to stand). Tried sitting and didn't care for it. I am a top feeder.

I prefer to sit unless I'am scrolling something big. I bought a craftman adjustable stool with back, and works very well. Edward
