Default Mouse in a box

I went to a woodworking show over the weekend, and one table had a box sitting there with a sliding top. When you slide it open, a fake mouse swings out toward your hand. The people at the booth were busy with customers, so I didn't talk to anyone about it. I would like to make one. Has anyone ever seen plans for one? Thanks.

No real ideas here, but it probably has some spring, and is in some way tied to the lid (fat lot of help I am!) Good luck finding it.

I found one on line, but still not sure how to make it. Hoping someone else does.

Sounds like you need to do some reverse engineering, Theresa?

Try a hinge attached to the lid near the end where the mouse comes out. From this hinge, a curved metal bar (wire, if stiff enough) with the mouse on the end. As the lid is opened the curved bar will be pulled against the wall of the box, and the mouse will be forced up and over the lid.

Now you build it.

My dad used to make these for my kids.
They had a snake instead of the mouse.
Tor is correct in the mechanism, but dads were solid wood.
He carverd the snake.
