Default Wacom purchase help quick please?

This is kind of an offshoot of another thread of mine. Following some advice I think I'm going to get a Wacom tablet. My question is what size is best for pattern work? I see Amazon has a good deal on a Bamboo small with Elements 5 and also have an 8x6 without software. Would the small be good enough or would the 8x6 medium be better for patterns? I picked up Elements 6 at Best Buy today for $99 since I have no software or patterns and I had $100 in gift certificates. I might take the Elements 6 back and get a cash refund, not another GC if they'll do that, and use that to buy the Bamboo if thats what'll work best.
Please help soon because I'm about to bust a gut and salivating over having my very own tablet and Elements to do my own stuff finally. I could order the tablet tonight if advice comes in.
PS. Does anybody know if BB will give cash refunds off of stuff bought with GC's?

I use the 4 X 5 tablet. The Bamboo is just slightly smaller than 4 X 5 but insignificantly smaller. I'm MORE THAN HAPPY with the 4 X 5.

A larger would be "nice" but definitely not necessary. Most of the time, I've zoomed in tight on an area of the pattern to add/remove the necessary details so the 4 X 5 is more than suficcient.

You're getting me all excited!! LOL

In case you don't have it handy, here's a link to the Elements tutorial on my website. It was done using version 2 I think? so the menu locations might be a bit different but it'll help you along the way.

Should I get the Bamboo with or with out the mouse? Is a mouse really needed? Amazon has one without the mouse for about $57 and one with a mouse that comes with the software bundle for around $90. I don't need the software because I checked with Best Buy and any refund will be given back on another GC ,which I don't need, so I'll just keep my Elements 6 and be happy about it I guess.

The Bamboo with the Mouse is at wacom.com's estore for $99. If you haven't opened the Elements, I'd return it to Best Buy for the credit and force them to sell you the Bamboo with pen and mouse as advertised by the mfgr. It'll be bundled with Elements 5 and you've got a win/win situation. You might have to jump up and down and throw a fit in the middle of the store ... I did and it worked! LOL I love the pen, couldn't be more happy with the mouse (no batteries!) and Elements 5 is more than sufficient.

Let us know how it works out. I'll give you my phone number if you want the Mgr. at Best Buy to call me. ROTF LMBO

Default If I were to buy it again I would buy the smaller ...

Hello,

I have the Wacom Intuos 3 6x8 inches and it is a fantastic design tool.

If I were to buy it again I would buy the smaller version with 4x6 inches. I could do exactly the same I do now with this smaller one.

What will the mouse do for me? Is it a must have item or will the pen be sufficient? I would get the Bamboo with the mouse and Elements 5 but if I do that I'm stuck with $100 of Best Buy gift certificates after I return Elements 6 I don't need. If the mouse isn't really necc. I'll get the Bamboo that has no software and no mouse for $57.

I do not use the mouse that came with my wacom, only the pen.
