Default scrollsaw photo frame mountings

Hello, I have a question regarding photo frames. Patric Spielman has a beautiful book titled "Victorian Scrollsaw Patterns". In this book he has many examples of ornate picture frames that photos can be placed in. Nowhere does he show how to mount the pictures. Do i glue a cardboard backing ? What about covering the picture with glass to protect the photo? He doesn't seem to have any way to mount the pictures. Am i missing somthing obvious? Even John Nelson omits this step in his books. Do i chaulk this one up to just being a newbe ? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!!!

I've read that you should never let the photo contact the glass. The emulsions in the paper somehow interact with the glass and can ruin the photo. For the other parts of your question, try this site.
