I normally use blue painter's tape on the wood then glue the pattern to the tape. The painter's tape removes easily from the wood.

Be careful with the tape. I've seen it lift slivers out of the surface on the plywood. I generally apply some additional mineral spirits on the bare wood after removing the pattern. It helps cut through the residue and cleans it up nicely.

I use the 3m artist mount it works well for me I put clear packing tape over the pattern after it is mounted and when I am done I use a heat gun to remove the pattern it comes off with little or no residue. But I am sure there are several different ways and things to use it is what you are comfortable with.

barnja, I use the purple or lavender painter's tape, can be left on the wood for weeks and still comes off easy. Have never had a problem with it lifting the wood. I use thr Duro brand spray adhesive on the back of the pattern.

I use clear Contact paper on the wood and use 3M artist mount to glue the pattern. I have found this works better for me than painters tape or clear tape. If there is any residual glue, a quick wipe with spirits cleans it up.

Barnja, I use that glue. it comes in a spray can. I spray my pattrn, then put it on my sanded wood. hard or ply. I use alot of it. don't wont my patterns to come off. or have voids. I have no problem getting it off at all. I just put some mineral spirits on a make up spoung, and dab it on. some use a spray. don't like that myself. and WAIT. a few minuts, and just lift it off. the glue left on the project, is easy to get off. just put more minieral spirits on the sponge and wipe. then wipe with a clean cloth like t shirt. all gone. I have never had a problem with this methad. your friend Evie

I, too use Super 77, great stuff. Most of the time I don't want the picture to lift off, never does with S77.

If you want it to be removable, spray the back of the pattern lightly, don't spray both surfaces, let it dry for a few moments and lightly touch it to a towel. It will pick up a few stray fibers and therefore will not stick a hard.

If you want to clean up squeeze out or remove the residue I would recommend using BESTINE. It's a solvent / thinner for rubber cement and works wonders with Super 77. It comes in a gray and red can. Look for it where art supplies are sold.

Another plus-- Bestine is usually fairly harmless to photos and prints. Test a small area first, and don't rub to hard. YMMV.

Default Spray adhesive

3M is quality stuff, mabey try a different brand. I use one named Duro. If I spray it on to thick I have to use a heat gun to remove the pattern then mineral spirits to remove the residue. Light coat and proper drying time (usually 15sec) and it will peel off fine. I have started using cheap clear packaging tape on the project then apply the pattern.

I've noted that various methods for attaching patterns are as much about personal preference as blade selection is. Some folks just love a particular method or brand, but someone else hates it. Not sure why that is, exactly, but it makes for interesting commentary.

Anyhoo, I use Krylon Repositionable Spray Adhesive. I spray it on heavy enough that I can see the pattern lines through the paper. This helps ensure it doesn't lift while cutting. It peels off pretty easy, even without mineral spirits, but to remove the left over residue, MS works even better.

Not trying to talk you out of the 3M spray. Lots of people use it and like it. I tried the Duro a couple times and just didn't like it at all. Thus my point about different strokes for different folks.

Good luck!
