Default Burn marks

Hello scrollers
I was trying to sand a mini clock and got some burn marks on the wood. I don't know what kind of wood it is, but I would guess a hard wood.
What can I use to get the burn marks off? I've been hand sanding the crap out of it, but they won't come off, and don't want to use the electric sander again because that is what gave me the marks in the first place.
Any suggestions?
Thanks
WD

Default Do a test?

Do a test in a small area, using a Q-tip and some household bleach.

I hope it works.

Thanks MacS I did as you suggested, and it didn't seem to do much.
Then I tried it again today letting it soak for a few minuets then scrapped it with a razor blade.
It is not completely out but looks much better. Thanks for your time.

Default "all is well, that ends well"

WD,

I'm happy that it worked for you.

Most weak chemicals need to be repeated a couple of times, but as we say, "all is well, that ends well"

I also read that if you soak the area with a bit of mineral spirits, it will soften the "glaze" formed by the heat and allow you to sand it away faster...

Have you tried that, Mac?

Default Give it a try...

Bob,

No, I have never tried it, or ever heard that said, but one thing I learned many years ago, what may work on some things don't always work on others.

Its worth a try, and I shall try it.
