There has been an increase in the interest of scrolling jigsaw puzzles. Some use patterns and others use freehand designs. Here is yet another concept of the jigsaw from a May 1933 Popular Science magazine

Yes -- good fodder for ideas. Two things that occurred to me was to put a picture on EACH of the sections of the cube and also to put the pictures on a solid cube and then compound cut it in all 3 dimensions. Good stuff!
