This morning I was thinking about a new project and remembered that Bob posted up the plans for the airplane whirligig so I printed them out. as I was looking them over I got to thinking that the size would be perfect for Caleb... that's all I could think about at work and couldn't wait to get home and start cutting... I'm using 1/2 inch poplar for the body and 1/4 inch for the wings. ![]() and to think, it's a project out of the magazine and I still don't have mine yet! Trout |

Good one, Trout. Don't mean to be picky, but I would say the wings are on backwards. Normally the wider root is toward the rear. Earl |

Say Earl, don't blame it on Trout, it looks like Paul Meisel showed it that way in the plans. I found a photo of a P51 and that is the way it is. http://www.clubhyper.com/reference/i...51-Mustang.jpg

"that's all I could think about at work and couldn't wait to get home and start cutting..." Trouty... that's how it starts! You start thinking about it at work. Then you take scroller magazines into the outhouse. Your cubicle at work starts to look like a craft shop. You're boss starts to notice you're designing things on your PC at work! You're desktop calendar looks more like a schedule for craft shows and when your next Scroller mag is due! You walk around mumbling blade sizes to yourself... THEN IT HAPPENS!!! Everyone shows up at your desk one day with a serious look on their face.... You start thinking,"Has my work deteriorated that badly? Have I forgotten a deadline? Am I going to be FIRED?" Heck no! they all want you to make them something.

my cubicle is a truck and trailer. I'm the guy who hauls stuff around our school district so I have lots of time to think about my projects. I also have lots of resources, I need primer I go see the painter, I need wood cut no problem, except Mrs.Trout doesn't like it when she finds nuts, bolts and screws in the washer from my pockets... I have a little problem with my plane, I did the propeller the way it shows in the picture so now it doesn't spin when connected to the body..now that I looked at the plans it shows the blades are flush with the back side of the hub but that's not the way it looks in the picture...so now I have to add a 1/4 inch of dowel to the body so that the propeller will spin. It still going to look great... Trout EDIT my problem.. I'm only using 1/4 inch wood for the hub, 1/2 inch would of taken care of the problem.. Last edited by Trout; 04-19-2007 at 04:21 AM. |
