Default Pictures into patterns

Need a crash course in how to make pictures into patterns. I have a scanner, Photo Impact Pro and Publisher Pro. Any articles or suggestions would be great. I tried one but it ended up having to much cut out. THANKS

Pattern design is like chess ....you can learn the basic moves in a couple of days, but it takes a lifetime to master them. Every one has their preference on software. I use PSP7 simply because it was already on my computer. I've seen excellent patterns made with others programs as well. It's all about learning the software and just practice, practice, practice !
we also have some extremely talented folks on this board who do not use a computer at all, they use plain ol' tracing paper and a light source. Lucky788 made an awesome boot pattern this way
Just don't get discouraged, there is a learning curve regardless of which way you approach it. I've made some patterns that look top notch on paper and were as ugly as a mud fence when I actually cut them. Ya just start over and learn from the mistakes
Andy Deane has an excellent tutorial that is referenced in the thread miamw spoke about.
Remember, practice practice practice

anyone needing to know how to make portrait patterns need look no further than the one who taught me and so many others. Kerry Roberts tutoral is the clearly the easiest method that's out there. I tried for over two years to master this talent and, with Kerry's method, I can now say "I can do it". I wouldn't say I've actually mastered this but by using Kerry's tutoral I can make patterns that I couldn't do before. In my opinion, there isn't a better or simpler tutoral out there available and "wow', what a bargan at $12.00 and some change. David

Andy Dean also has a tutorial that has helped me. I just started making patterns from photos myself and with Andy's help they have turned out quiet nice. He uses PSP but I used a freeware version of "getpaint.net" and everything that Andy mentions I was able to do with this program. Here's the link:

Hope this helps get things going for you, you'll have a feeling of real accomplishment when you design and cut your first pattern, at least I did.

Kerry also has a tutorial available but for a small fee. Here's his website. http://www.kerrysworld.com/ I haven't personally tried the tutorial but thought I would let you know it's available.
